2 favourite? 2 hard? - Pablo

I don't know if anyone is having the same problem as me. I just can't seem to say a favorite designer. I feel like I should have at least 2 favorite designers as I am going into the industry myself.

I don't have any favorite designers but here is a couple that stick out to me.

There are many great designers out there. One that sticks out in my mind is definitely, Stefan Sagmeister. It's not only because I have heard about him a lot through school.

I really like the way he is always creating physical designs. For example one that most people have probably heard of is his a poster he did for a lecture at the AIGA in Detroit. He got his collegue to actually cut into his own skin for this poster and then photograph it.

Sagmeister is a print designer based in New York. he does a lot with musicians for CD covers.

I like him because he is an interesting guy. He seems to find ways around inspiration downtimes and always has an idea.

Last year sometime this guy Gareth from NZ was posted on motionographer. He is a New Zealand motion designer with some interesting stuff.
His site is www.graffe.co.nz

I like his style and escpecially like the music he used for his reel. Its out of the ordinary and fun. His work is all pretty "fun". Hes not like your average motion designer style.

Its nice to see some talent coming out of my home country.

Yeah there is a couple sweet guys.

Favorites ^_^ - Jadyn Aguilar

Hi guys! I agree with Pablo, it's also hard for me to pick 2 favorites, there's so much talented people to look up to out there! But for the time being, these are some of my favorites.

.........................................................................

Dave McKean

Illustrator / Designer / Filmmaker

David Tench McKean (born 29 December 1963 in Maidenhead, England) is an illustrator, photographer, comic book artist, graphic designer, filmmaker and musician.

His work incorporates drawing, painting, photography, collage, found objects, digital art and sculpture.
The diversity of his work is extremely impressive. All of his work is distinctive thanks to the rich use of textures. His visual style is also very unique and a bit dark.

For many years he has worked alongside Neil Gaiman, a British writer (one of my favorites as a matter of fact!). Together they have worked on novels, children’s books, comic books and until recently, film. In this transition, it’s very interesting to see the richness of their work come to life in “Mirrormask”. Fortunately Dave McKean didn’t stop at Mirrormask, his experimental short films contain surreal and evocative images combined with strange and original stories, to create a world of memory and dreams.

.........................................................................

Yoshitaka Amano
Illustrator / Animator / Designer / Filmmaker

Yoshitaka (born July 28, 1952) is a Japanese artist known for his illustrations for Vampire Hunter D and for his character designs, image illustrations and title logo designs for the Final Fantasy video game series developed by Square Enix (formerly Square). He has also worked on some experimental animation shorts / features. The delicate and intricate style he portrays is very unique, I've yet to see anyone's work resemble his.

Amano has published a lot of illustration books from all his works, they are all incredible.

.........................................................................

Tim Burton
Illustrator / Animator / Filmmaker

Tim Burton has been one of my favorites for a long time. All of his work is unique in it’s creative visual style and a very dark sense of humor (just take a look at his book “the melancholy death of oyster boy and other stories”). One of the reasons I like Tim Burton’s work so much is because of his medium versatility.

When I saw “The nightmare before Christmas” in 1993, it had a huge impact on me, I think it was the reason I decided to get involved in the visual industry. It’s the reason I love animation so much.

My Two Favorite Designers / Illustrators ...continue

2. Ed McGuinness Career: comic book illustrator

As you can see most of my biggest influences in design and graphic arts comes from my old hobby of reading too much of comic books growing up. Ed McGuinness was comic book artist and penciler and he is known for his works with Superman, Deadpool Series, Vampirella and JLA Classified series. His unique style in comic book illustration as some would debate would have some anime inspiration as shown in his various works of the cute and yet funny gestures and expression that would be often seen in anime cartoons. I would consider him as one of the best comic book illustrators in the 20th century which he has success compile works ranging from popular titles such as Captain America, Wolverine vs. the Hulk, Superman vs. Batman series, and presently he's working together with artists and writers from Marvel comics to complete the Ultimates series that would be release within this year.

My Two Favorite Designers / Illustrators

1. Hyung-Tae Kim
Career: Illustrator / Game Designer

He began his video games career working in the field of background music, then shifted to art and design. He has branched out into the comic book industry, serving as a guest cover artist, and has contributed to the Udon street fighter series.

I've always had a strong influenced in character design and illustrations especially in the field of anime. I admire his skills in freehand drawing and his tenacity in digital painting, which all his works were done using tablet. His works displays his unique art style in "Manhwa" which is the Korean style illustrations which is quite similar to Japanese anime has been a big influence not only in comic industry but also in the gaming industry as well.

orks with others to develop full product, environmental and web experience. In his free time, he pursues illustration, photography and invests in the occasional commission. Lately, he has been involved heavily with film, illustration and design project that kept him on conceptual illustration.
Greg Martin wa
nts to continue driving him in new and exciting directions throughout his own work.
I personall
y respect his skill of using a camera and digital tools. I can say that his universe illustrations are beautiful and all his works make me work hard as a student and designer in the future as well.

These are some his works...

(This universe illustration is favorite for me)

(His pencil drawing and he fixed it with Photoshop.)

2.
Name: Bert Monroy
Career: Author, Artist, Art Director and Creative director
http://www.bertmonroy.com

Bert Monroy is a Hyper-realist artist. He was born in New York and grew up there. He became a digital artist when he starts use Macintosh 128 computer in 1984 and Macpaint was the first digital tool that he began to use. Before he became a digital artist, he was a fine artist who usually drew with a paintbrush and pencil.
Most of his works are hyper-realistic urban drawing, posters and he published several books as well. Being a city guy, he said that the urban landscape has always been his f
ascination. Basically, his works are not photographs or 3D. Those are based on the 2D graphics such as Photoshop and Illustrator. As a hyper-realist artist, when Bert Monroy draws, he spends a lot of times to draw every little detail on his art work. This is possible for him because he has a fine art skill and has lots of drawing experience.
If you look at his works, especially urba
n drawings, they have incredible details which make me not to believe that those are 2D based works. Bert Monroy creates 3D images with 2D tools. Details are incredible. Check his one of the most ambitious latest work “Damen”. He said he spent 11 months to finish it. You will see how much little details he put on his work.

There are some his urban drawings…

My Two, Ivan Cruz

Name.
Joshua Davis
http://www.joshuadavis.com/

Joshua Davis is a New York based graphic designer, developer and Illustrator, being Illustration what made me interested in him in the first place.

his major influence is Jackson Pollock, American Abstract Expressionist, who would splatter paint on a canvas with the idea that his art was the process of his creation and not the final result. With this in mind Davis explored randomized graphics in controlled environments, with the help of flash, some code and Pollock's theory of art behind him.

He is an active member of the design community, giving lectures, workshops and exhibitions of his work thoroughly around the world.

Career Highlights.

Flash to the Core: An Interactive Sketchbook
This book takes the reader for a ride on what his creative process is, how Flash, Web and Art can be used to create a new kind of Experience, and a few examples of how to get the most out of Actionscript.

Praystation
this being the fourth version of the site, was one of the first websites to offer open source flash files.

Once upon a forest
Is a web-based showcase of the work he creates with flash and Illustrator, his process is quite interesting he will create the assets in Illustrator make them independent movieclips (mc's), remember flash mc's?, and then he created a code that randomizes the size, position and ammount of this mc's, by giving them parameters.

Name.
Danny Youth
http://www.sixteentwenty.tv/

Danny Youth is the person behind breathtaking movie titles such as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (being one of my favorite movie titles of all times), he also worked in collaboration with Digital Kitchen for the "Six Feet Under" title, this being on my top five as well.

[kiss kiss bang bang title sequence]

But what makes him so interesting? Well for starters, he is a self-taught graphic designer, and ever since he made his debut as an art director, he's been awarded at major design shows from online to feature title sequences.

At the moment he is working as a Creative Director with Kyle Cooper at Prologue Films, You've probably seen Cooper's work, he was the person behind Se7en's intro, with the hand-scratched lettering that he scratched with a needle onto stock film, frame by frame.

Career Highlights.
2006 D&AD Global Awards : Cinema Graphics
2005 Tampere 35th International Short Film Festival
2004 Emmy Nomination : Outstanding Maintitle Design
2002 Emmy Winner : Outstanding Maintitle Design
